India's healthcare and medical device sectors have grown significantly, with a wide range of medical devices being produced, from consumables to implantable medical devices. However, India still has a huge gap in the current demand and supply of medical devices, with an overall 70-80% import dependency. The government has launched initiatives and policies to promote India's medical device sector, recognising it as a focus sector during the Make in India campaign in 2014. The medical devices sector is highly capital intensive and requires continuous training of healthcare system providers to adapt to new technologies.
