India's textiles industry is diverse and dates back centuries, with a strong production base of a variety of fibres/yarns, ranging from natural to synthetic. The decentralised power looms, hosiery and knitting sector form the largest component of the industry, with close links to agriculture and ancient culture. The industry has the capacity to produce a wide range of products suitable for different market segments, both within India and globally. To boost the industry, the government has introduced various schemes such as SITP, TUFS, and MITRA Park scheme.
